Pine has become popular again during the credit crunch as prices are lower than the cost of Oak and Ash Furniture. This is because pine is made from a tree that grows faster than an oak or ash tree and therefore their is more pine trees around. With an oak tree taking 100 years to grow against a pine tree taking 30 years good quality oak panels for manufacturing are becoming harder to source and therefore the price over the last couple of years have got a lot more expensive or the quality has gone to a different level. Many companies like Perlato Furniture, Corndell Furniture Nimbus and Pinetum Q2 use side or top panels that are made of oak veneer instead of solid oak. This is done for two reasons, because an oak veneer panel is cheaer than a solid oak panel and because a oak veneer panel has a lot less movement than a solid oak panel if the item of furniture is stored in a roof that gets incredibly cold or hot like a conservatory or a room where their is no heating. Through our dealings with furniture we have noticed that when we first started selling oak furniture the colour of the furniture was a lot more consistant. Over the last couple of years the furniture has become a lot more varied in colour over the individual panels that make up the the actual piece. Their is nothing that can be done about this as this is how the individual items are cut at the factory and joined together. The colour then comes out when oil or laquer is applied to the piece as the more open the grain the more oil it absorbs and therefore that piece will become darker than the piece on the very next panel. Ash furniture has only in the last couple of years got to the level of popularity that it has in this country. This is because it is cheaper than oak but has the same charastices as oak by being a hardwood. Their are more Ash trees around than oak as ash has only recently started being mass produced and this has made the price cheaper.
